Friday Favorites - Halloween Edition 10/30/2015

This week's Friday Favorites include my favorite DIY Halloween costume, a fun and festive treat, and a punny Halloween graphic.

Although Halloween isn't my favorite holiday, I love seeing all the different costumes that people come up with, especially the at-home DIY costumes! These were some of my personal favorites this year.

If you and your girls plan on dressing up together, why not go as Taylor Swift and her "Bad Blood" crew? Taylor Swift happens to be in concert tomorrow in Tampa, so I'm sure tons of screaming fans will be dressed up just like this too.

And of course, I had to include a fun and simple costume for your furry friend. This year my pups are being a "rufferee" and skeleton. Is it bad that I have costumes for them, but not for myself?

Need to make a spooky treat for a Halloween party? Make your own Dracula's Dentures by using chocolate chip cookies, mini marshmallows, red vanilla frosting and almond slivers. Click here to see the full recipe.

Simple, yet punny :)

And not Halloween related, but it's quickly become my favorite new song...Ariana Grande released her brand new single, "Focus," last night.

Are you dressing up for Halloween tomorrow? What are your favorite DIY costumes from this year? What do you think of Ariana Grande's new single?

Celebrities Who Ditched Their Long Locks for a Chic Cut

Recently, Lauren Conrad ditched her gorgeously long mermaid hair for a cute and chic texturized bob. I was shocked to see that she made the cut, but of course, can Lauren Conrad really do any wrong? I think not. I may be a little biased considering that she's basically my idol, but the proof is in the pictures - she's just down right flawless.

She actually had her hair cut 4 times until she got to the right length. Lauren said that he long locks have acted as a security blanket for her for many years past, which I can definitely relate to.

I've emulated her hair trends a few times, from her effortlessly soft curls to her dyed pastel tips - yes I had pastel tips for a few weeks (and actually loved it), but there's no way I could pull off a bob like her. My hair is much too thick. I've been there in grade school, and boy was that a mistake.

Also loving her outfit from this recent Who What Wear shoot.

Of course not everyone can pull of the chop as flawlessly as Mrs. Conrad - or should I say Mrs. Tell! Here's a few other celebs who took the daring cut, but in my opinion, some should have stuck with their long longs as opposed to the short do's.

Better Short

Emma Stone
Taylor Swift

Better Long

Kaley Cuoco
Anne Hathaway
Jennifer Lawrence
Shailene Woodley

Can Rock Long or Short

Hayden Panettiere
Emma Roberts

Miley Cyrus

Julianne Hough

Who do you think can pull of the short cut? Have you ever made a drastic cut like these celebrities?

Best & Worst Dressed: Golden Globes 2014

The Golden Globes marks the beginning of the 2014 red carpet season and it was quite an interesting red carpet to begin with. There were only a few looks that I really loved, and plenty that I didn't love. There were also a few looks that I liked, but would have loved if I could change an aspect about the look. Keep reading to see my best and worst dressed!

Best Dressed

Taylor Swift. Taylor was my best dressed overall of the night. I'm not her biggest fan personally, but I thought she looked great in this Carolina Herrera gown. I loved the little black at the top so it wasn't just another red dress (which was overplayed this red carpet).

Maria Menounos. I'm a sucker for Maria. She seems to always end up on my best dressed list. I know some people will be disgusted with this choice, but I'm in love with that fuchsia color. I don't think it clashes with the red carpet, and the subtle cut-out lines give it just the right amount of sexiness.

Sosie Bacon. Miss Golden Globes herself looked stunning in this gown. I love the form fitting style and the details on the chest. It was perfectly styled and the neutral color looked amazing both with her skin tone and in contrast to the red carpet.

Olivia Wilde. There were many baby bumps on the red carpet this year, but Olivia's was my favorite look. I love when mothers-to-be aren't afraid to show off their bump to the paparazzi and this is no exception. The emerald color is to die for (another one of my favorites)!

Kate Beckinsale. I love a little shimmer on the red carpet and Kate takes the cake with this stunning gown. The shape, cut and fit on her in this Zuhair Murad gown is impeccable and there's nothing about this I don't like! Not to mention, she has a banging body to add to it.

Things I Would Edit

Jennifer Lawerence. I'm a huge fan of J-Law, but I'm torn with this gown selection. The Dior gown wasn't liked by many, but I think it would have been a great choice if the second black strip that cinches in the dress was removed. That way, her waist would be the main focus, whereas with the second strip makes the gown too distracting.

Julia Roberts. I'm not quite sure what Julia was thinking when she chose this Dolce and Gabbana gown. Simply take away that white oxford underneath and she would have had a simple, yet elegant red carpet dress that probably would have landed her on the best dressed list. The shirt part of the dress covers her up to much and looks extremely random on the red carpet.

Kaley Cuaco. I love the structure and shape of this gown on Kaley, but I'm not crazy about the pattern. The corset and boning on the upper part of the gown give her great shape, but the blah pattern leaves me confused. I would have rather seen a solid color, possibly with black boning for a nice accent.

Sofia Vergara. We all know that Sofia is a fun and outgoing celebrity and this Zac Posen gown is everything that you would expect from her. I like that she chose to stick to black with a pop of teal from her necklace, but I think there was just too much volume on the bottom. It fits her body like a glove - as always - but I think it was too overwhelming.

Worst Dressed

Sandra Bullock. The first thing that came to mind when I saw Sandra's Prabal Gurung gown was matador. The color combination and color blocking were unexpected...in a bad way. I also was not a fan of the cut of the gown and expected a lot more from her unfortunately.

Tina Fey. I feel like Tina can never really wow on the red carpet. I don't know what she was thinking with this random pattern, but it definitely isn't something that will land her on anyone's best dressed list.

Paula Patton. I think almost everyone can agree that this was one of the worst dressed of the night. Although Paula was one of the few ladies on the red carpet who went with a white gown, she killed look with the overly bulky and distracting volume on the side of her gown. It almost looks like she's carrying someone over her shoulder who happens to be wrapped in a bed sheet.

Melissa Mccarthy. Again, I'm just not sure what these ladies are thinking when they agree to wear these gowns. Melissa's gown was not only boring and ugly, but it was completely unflattering for her body shape. It looked more like a black cloak with a silver scarf draped down the front.

Red Hot Fever

Tons of starlets went with all red gowns this year, and I'm really not a fan. I color blends in with the red carpet and didn't complement any one of it's wearers. A different shade of red - burgundy or oxblood, for example - are acceptable since they aren't the exact same shade as the carpet they are standing on. Take a look at the many ladies who tried, and failed to pull it off.

Who were your favorites and least favorites from the Golden Globes?

Friday Favorites: 02/22/13

Selena Gomez has really been killing it at her red carpet events for the upcoming movie Spring Breakers. She looked like perfection in a detailed gold and black Dolce & Gabbana dress at the premiere in Venice, and also looked great in London in a jewel tone, blue embellished Gucci mini. The detailing at the top of the dress made it a little risky, but I think she pulls it off. Taylor Swift (middle) also took a risk for once when she wore a black Elie Saab gown with sheer panels towards the bottom. I'm in love with this dress (and of course it's an Elie Saab, so how could I not), and I think she looks great and exudes confidence.

Mirror nails! I recently saw this trend on Pinterest and found out that Essie has a nail polish that can make your nails look like mirrors! I haven't tried the polish out for myself yet, but it's definitely something a little different that would make your nails stand out.

I actually got this quote from a fortune cookie that I had last week, but I'm in love with it's meaning. I think sometimes we get down on ourselves when we fail, but we have to remember that if we keep on going, in the long run, it will only benefit us.

Last, I wanted to show you all my festive Valentine's Day gifts, treats, and nails. I love baking for my boyfriend because I know that they won't be sitting around my apartment for me to eat a whole batch of brownies, so for Valentine's Day, I made him heart-shaped rice crispie treats and red velvet brownies. Then I made him bacon roses (what guy doesn't love bacon!). And finally, I showed my Valentine's Day spirit by painting my nails red and having a contrasting nail with sparkly gold and a red heart. See all of my pictures on my instagram by clicking here!

What were your favorites from this week? Have you tried mirror nails before?

Grammy Awards 2013 Red Carpet Review

The 55th Annual Grammy Awards aired last night and there were some looks that I just can't get over...in a good way! But of course, every red carpet has its flaws, and there were a few starlets who completely missed the mark.

Let's start out with the best of the best. By far, the most gorgeous woman on the red carpet was Rihanna. I'm not usually a Rihanna fan, but how can you not be a Rihanna fan when you see her in this crimson red Azzedine Alaia dress. She was a true show-stopper with her hair in loose, natural waves and stunning makeup. She channeled her inner girly-girl side on the red carpet and on the stage when she performed twice. But her red carpet look was no doubt the best of the night.

Runner-ups for best dressed included Carrie Underwood in a simple but detailed Roberto Cavalli gown, Katy Perry in a mint green Gucci gown, Taylor Swift, looking white hot in J. Mendel, and Kelly Rowland who walked the red carpet with loads of confidence in a Georges Chakra Couture gown. I know that Kelly's dress may be a little controversial, but I think it's just daring enough without showing everything off.

And of course, there were those who left me scratching my head and wondering why. Jennifer Lopez stuck out to my first...or rather her leg stuck out to me, literally. J Lo channeled her inner Angelina Jolie and showed a bit too much leg in a black Anthony Vaccarello gown with an extremely high slit. Other misses included Kimbra in a custom Jamie Lee dress, Lisa D'amato reminded me of a pirate in an interesting choice for the Grammys, and finally, D'manti in a mermaidesque Claudio Milano dress.

Last but not least is Alicia Keys. I wasn't blown away by her dress, but it also wasn't horrible. Then I realized that her dress looked very familiar. After a quick look at the gown that she wore to the Superbowl last week, I was shocked that the dress's bottoms were nearly the same. Alicia wore an oxblood Azzedine Alaia dress to the Superbowl Pregame show, and a black Azzedine Alaia dress with cut-outs to the red carpet at the Grammys. I could understand if she wanted to use the same designer, but to use basically the same dress is a bit repetitive.

Who did you think was the best dressed? Do you think Alicia made a mistake in choosing that dress?

Favorites from People's Choice Awards and The Golden Globes 2013

Awards season is officially in full swing! This past week, two awards shows took place to kick off the red carpet season: People's Choice Awards and The Golden Globes. The best part about awards shows isn't the show itself, but the hour before on the red carpet. Instead of highlighting both the worst and the best dressed, I picked a few of my favorites from each of the red carpets.

People's Choice Awards
Lea Michele in a bright pink, sequined Elie Saab mini.
Taylor Swift in a white hot Ralph Lauren dress with a plunging neckline.
Chloe Grace Moretz in a neon yellow floral Simone Roche dress.

Golden Globe Awards
Hayden Panettiere in a strapless, mermaid style gown by Roberto Cavalli.
Kate Hudson in a black Alexander McQueen gown with gold embellishments.
Isla Fisher in a detailed Reem Acra gown with a sheer top.

Check out the best and the worst dressed from last year's People's Choice Awards and Golden Globes!

Which gowns were your favorite? Which awards shows are you looking forward to?

Stand-Outs from 2012 CMA's

The 46th annual Country Music Association Awards was a night full of laughs, tears, and tons of singing.
Although there weren't too many stand out favorites from the red carpet, Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift are worth  mentioning. I feel like these two almost never get it wrong. They continue to look classy and elegant on the red carpet. It was fitting for Taylor to wear a dress with some red in it considering her recent album release titled "Red" (which I'm obsessed with). Carrie also had a ton of other amazing dress changes throughout the show since she was hosting. I would die to have any of those numbers!

Did you watch the CMAs last night? Who were your favorites, or least favorites?

Red Carpet Looks I Love

Here's three recent red carpet looks that I absolutely love! Do you agree?

Taylor Swift. Pictured at the Nashville Symphony Ball. As if Taylor Swift could look bad, I really don't know if I've seen a bad outfit on her yet!

Miley Cyrus. On the CNN Heroes red carpet wearing Roberto Cavalli with the amazingly gorgeous, Liam Hemsworth. I'm usually not a Miley fan, but this dress is sexy and stunning, and I love her hair and makeup too. She finally got it right!

Brooklyn Decker. Pictured at the Spike TV Video Game Awards wearing a Nha Khanh dress. I love the lacy dress, but the highlighter yellow pumps definitely give it a great pop of color!

Glitz & Glamour

Sequins and metallics are definitely popular trends for the fall and winter and the red carpet of the 2011 American Music Awards on Sunday was filled with sparkling ensembles. Taylor Swift was my absolute favorite from the red carpet wearing Reem Acra. Her full sequin dress was dazzling! It's a trend that I've always loved, and it looks like it's going to be around for a while.

Who doesn't love a little sparkle? I'm absolutely loving the glitz, so for my semi-formal event for my sorority this past weekend, I went with a short mini sequin dress from Forever 21 with my Steve Madden glitter heels.

With this trend at an all-time high, you can find the perfect dress or outfit for all of your holiday festivities; especially fabulous for New Year's Eve! Whether you're looking for just an eye-catching accessory or a bold and shiny outfit, don't be afraid to try this trend for yourself too! For an affordable outfit, check out Forever 21 and Express.

Miss USA 2011: Evening Gowns

If you want to see 50 absolutely beautiful women, look no further than the Miss USA Pageant 2011. The event was help in Las Vegas on June 19th and was hosted by Andy Cohena and the gorgeous Giuliana Rancic. After these lovely ladies showed off their amazing beach bodies in tiny bikinis, they went back in their dressing rooms and got all dolled up for the evening gown part of the show. Some gowns were gorgeous while others left me confused. Who were your favorites?

My favorite dress: 1st Runner-up, Miss Tennessee. I absolutely loved this dress. Not only did it fit her perfectly, but the one strap opposite the high slit made it look sexy and flawless. The light color of the gown and the sheerness of the bottom makes it sexy, but subtle.

Apparently I'm a sucker for sequins and sparkle. I loved all of these evening gowns, worn by Miss Arizona, Miss California, and of course, Miss Florida. Don't get me wrong, sparkles and sequins can definitely go wrong (see Miss Maryland), but these ladies knew how to work it in all the right places.

All the reds and pinks make me feel like it's a bad Valentine's Day Pageant. Miss Maryland shocked me, in a bad way, with her pink and red sequined top with a mermaid-like red mesh bottom. Miss New Jersey wore a bold color fuschia dress with random circles designs aroudn the waist. I just don't get it. Finally, the worst of all was Miss South Carolina. Not only was the dress completely ill-fitting, but she looked like she was on her way to a 70's Prom. Just not okay in my book.

Miss California, Alyssa Campanella, was crowned Miss USA at the end of the show and posed with one of the pageant's judges, Lil' Jon. For some reason, she looks exactly like Taylor Swift. Is it just me or do you agree?

Best & Worst Dressed: People's Choice Awards 2011

The 36th Annual People's Choice Awards was held on Wednesday, January 6th, 2011 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California. The night was filled with starlets and up-and-coming teen stars and many awards were given out: Favorite movie: Twilight Saga: Eclipse; Favorite Movie Star Under 25: Zac Efron; Favorite Country Singer: Taylor Swift, and many many more.

Speaking of Taylor, her award for Favorite Country Singer wasn't the only thing she was awarded. I also awarded her a spot on my best dressed list from the night, along with these other gorgeous girls. And of course, I couldn't leave out those who completely blew it. Here's my best and worst dressed for People's Choice Awards 2011:

BEST
Taylor Swift looking pretty in pale pink.
Ashley Benson star of Pretty Little Liars. I love the patterns and edgy cut. (my favorite)

Minka Kelly pulls off a boho chic red carpet look

WORST

Raven-Symone does ruffles all wrong.

Vanessa Williams chose a dress that hugged her in all the wrong places.

Pauly Perrette...just no.

Sister Faceoff. Aly Michalka outshined her younger sister, while Amanda ended up on the worst dressed list.
