Trend Alert: Patterns from NYFW 2013

Fashion Week is coming to an end, but I've been catching up on the runway looks from the comfort of my own room. I've been noticing some trends (which you'll see in my following posts), but one of my favorites is patterns. My favorite patterns designer from this past week was by far Mara Hoffman (photos above). I loved all the mixed colors and tribal prints and I would wear any of those pieces in a heartbeat!

Other patterns designers included Carolina Herrera, Nicole Miller, Tanya Taylor and Vivienne Tam. Check out some patterned highlights from their runway shows below!

Are you loving patterns for spring? Which piece was your favorite?

Miami Metropolitan International Fashion Week: Yvette Elfawal

I was lucky enough to attend Metropolitan International Fashion Week in Miami this past Friday. My best friend/roommate, Maria, was a model walking in Yvette Elfawal's show, so my other best friend/roommate, Christie, and I went down to Miami to watch and support Maria.

Yvette Elfawal has also shown her most recent collection (Fall/Winter 2013) at New York Fashion Week in February. Yvette uses a lot of detailing with rope around the bodice of her pieces. It looks both unique and sophisticated. But my absolute favorite pieces were the long gowns with feathered fabric. From a distance, the texture looks just like feathers, but once you get closer, you can see the small pieces of fabric that make the bottom look flowy and feather-light.

The other designers who were also showing on Friday night were: Dancing Dolls, Kirsten Regalado Gowns, Agragrami Fashion House, and Beautiful People Couture. Although they were all amazing designers, Yvette was my favorite of the night.

Here are some photos (taken with my iPhone) from Friday night. Sorry for the horrible quality!

My outfit for the fashion show:
Blue Dress - Fashion Star from H&M
Black Wedges - Target
Pink Floral Statement Necklace - Ebay

After the show. These were my two favorite looks, but I would die to have the light pink gown.

My best friend, Maria, who was walking in the runway show.

All of the models before the show (Yvette in front with the green maxi)

The three of us (me, Maria, Christie) after the show.

Here are some higher resolution photos of her collection. (Photo Credit)

And of course, I had to be a tourist and visit the Dash store on Saturday morning before we left.

Have you ever been to the Metropolitan International Fashion Week? What do you think of Yvette's designs?

Fashion from Coachella 2013: Weekend #2

Coachella 2013 has officially ended. This past weekend was the second weekend of the two weekend event. There weren't as many celebrity attendees as the first weekend (check out that post here), but Ashley Benson, Jessica Alba, and Mischa Barton all made an appearance. Paris Hilton attended both weekends with her boyfriend, River Viperii.

Ashley Benson & Troian Bellisario, Jessica Alba, Mischa Barton, Paris Hilton (and boyfriend)

Here are some non-celeb looks that I loved from Coachella. If I ever got the chace to go, I would wear something girly and floral like the above looks. I'm not really into the edgy side of the Coachella looks as much as I am these boho chic looks.

And I couldn't help but laugh at this video from Jimmy Kimmel where they interviewed festival-goers and asked if them like "insert made up band name here." All of them acted like they knew exactly who that band was...even though they don't even exist.

What would you wear to Coachella? What was your favorite look from this week?

Advertise on h² fashion!

I'm excited to officially announce that I will now be accepting advertisers and/or sponsors on my page! I have four different price points and locations that you can choose from depending on your budget, and best of all, they start at only $4! I'm interested in pairing up with a vast array of businesses and blogs, whether you have a fashion webiste, a cooking website, an Etsy shop, and much much more.

Here are the ad prices as follows:
Large Sidebar (225 x 350) - $20
Medium Sidebar (225 x 225) - $12
Small Sidebar (225 x 100) - $7
Small Footer (225 x 100)

An example of an advertisement would be like the ones that I have made below, or you can refer to the sidebar at the right to see Rice and Beans Vintage advertisement (this is a large sidebar ad). If you need any help with the dimensions are confused about how to make one to your liking, I would be more than happy to answer any questions or help you make one that fits your personality.

It's as easy as making yourself a simple ad (or I can help you make one) in the dimensions appropriate for the location you would like to purchase, and then purchasing and uploading that image to my account!
The ads will run for 30 days starting the day that I approve your ad. This will usually take less than 24 hours, so you can expect to see it up on my blog shortly after purchase time.

Any further questions can be left in comments below or e-mailed to me at hsquaredfashion@gmail.com

Looks from Coachella 2013: Weekend 1

Coachella is not only known for it's great music variety and fun music festival experience, but also for it's fashion! It's even been referred to as our generation's version of Woodstock. This year is the 14th Coachella and the festival is held in Palm Springs, California, and similar to last year, Coachella is being held on two separate weekends, but with identical performances. The first weekend took place this past weekend (April 12-15) and included artists like Tegan & Sara, Band of Horses, Of Monsters and Men,  Red Hot Chili Peppers, La Roux, Pretty Lights, the Lumineers, and many, many more! The same artists will also perform this coming weekend, April 19-21, but the fashion and audience will surely be different!

Celebrities are usually spotted at Coachella and plenty of trendsetters too. Plenty of hipster-like fashion can be found including high-waisted shorts, lace, fringe, flowery headbands, boots, and indie inspired looks. Most seems to channel their inner flower child for this music festival. Check out some celebrities that showed off their fashion at last weekends event.

My favorite looks were from Kate Bosworth and Alessandra Ambrosio (pictured below), but I also really loved Paris Hilton's bright blue maxi dress with a matching flower headband.

Kate Bosworth (first two), and Alessandra Ambrosio (second two).

Kate is a frequent festival-goer and ELLE magazine interviewed her about her music festival experiences. Check out what she said was her go to festival outfit below. Click here to see the full interview

ELLE: What is your go to festival outfit?
Kate Bosworth: Well, I suppose it depends on the festival. For Coachella, it is obviously usually pretty warm, although last year was a bit of a freak rainstorm, so I had to borrow Michael's army jacket unexpectedly.

But usually it is pretty warm, and then it gets a bit cooler at night, so usually having some kind of layering option stuck in your bag is a good idea. And comfortable footwear. After walking around at a festival all day, I've ended up wrapping my feet in tape because they just got so beat up.

Paris Hilton (first two photos), Whitney Port, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson

Hilary Duff, Emma Roberts, Vanessa Hudgens, Julianne Hough

Katy Perry (first two photos), Diane Kruger, Carmen Electra

Who were your favorite looks from Coachella? What would you wear if you were to go to the festival?

Best and Worst Dressed from MTV Movie Awards 2013

You never quite know what you're going to get when looking at the red carpet looks at the MTV Movie Awards. Some dress formal, while others play it much more casual. And obviously, there are a few who think they are daring enough to wear something completely off the chart (these usually end up on my - and most people's - worst dressed lists). But some of my notorious worst dressed celebrities made their way onto the best dressed list this year. Take a look at who ended up where!

Best

Nicole 'Snooki' Polizzi - I'm not usually a fan of Snooki's red carpet looks, but she looked amazing last night at the awards show. Although I wish that she toned down the hair a bit by maybe pulling it back or taking out the extensions, her new body and that amazing dress make her look like a completely different person!

Selena Gomez - Lately, Selena Gomez seems like she can do no wrong. With the recent release of her movie, Spring Breakers, she as been showing everyone up on the red carpet and last night was no different. She looked great in a gold Julien Macdonald embellished mini, although again, I would have toned down the hair a bit.

Holland Roden - Teen Wolf star, Holland Roden made her mark on the red carpet when she wore this fun black Donna Karen dress. I love that the dress is youthful, but still a bit sophisticated. The sheer panels at the bottom add a little twist and the plunging neckline isn't distracting or overly revealing for her body.

Kylie Jenner - My favorite look of the night by far was Kylie Jenner. Even though she's the youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner family at only 15 years old, she did not disappoint on the red carpet. I loved her white crop top and pencil skirt. Everything about this from her hair, to her shoes, to her gold chain necklace screamed perfection.

Worst

Ke$ha - Of course, we have to expect that Ke$ha is going to show up in something ridiculous. Even though this isn't one of her most outrageous looks, it was still bad enough to land her on the worst dressed list yet again. All of the different pieces just didn't work well together and the fact that you could see her underwear through her lacy pants didn't help either.

Quevenzhane Wallis - I'm not trying to pick on her because she's young, but I just hate this outfit. Of course she should have fun and dress in a youthful style, especially conisdering she's only nine years old, but I feel like she would look so much better in a fun, poofy mini dress or something a bit more formal. This looks more like an outfit that she would wear to the mall rather than a red carpet. All the purple is a little overkill and I'm sorry, but I really hate those dog purses that she always wears.

Chloe Grace Moretz - I usually love Chloe's style on the red carpet, but I just can't be on her side with this head-to-toe denim look. She wore a Louis Vuitton jumper over top a Topshop button-up denim shirt, but for me, it's just too much denim. It looks outdated and old and it just doesn't seem to be her style.

Hanna Mae Lee - I just don't understand this at all. Hanna Mae Lee showed up to the red carpet with a hat that has a giant cigarette butt on top. Her dress wasn't so bad, but obviously the hat was what landed her on this list. Maybe she's crying out for attention or hoping that she can make a statement like Lady Gaga, but whatever her reasons, I would advise her to never try that again.

Who were your favorites and least favorites from the red carpet? What did you think about Hanna's cigarette hat?

Friday Favorites: Printed Shorts

Summer is right around the corner and for most of us here in Florida, the warm weather is already here and isn't going anywhere for a while - there's a high of 88 degrees here today! And I'm definitely not complaining. I'm a true Florida girl and will take the warm over the cold any day! With the warm weather back, my wardrobe mainly consists of sundresses and short shorts. I'm a huge fan of fun shorts because you can pair them with a plain top or you can be daring and pair printed shorts with a printed top. Whatever combination you choose, a fun pair of printed shorts is essential in everyone's wardrobe.

Here are a few pairs that I already have in my wardrobe!

Are you loving printed shorts? Where are your favorite shorts from?

WWIB? Chime In On These Fashion Faceoffs!

Celebrities are bound to wind up in the same outfits sometimes, but the question is, Who Wore It Best?

First, we have both Lauren Conrad and Kelly Osbourne in a Camilla and Marc black jumpsuit. These two looks are completely different! Lauren's look is very sweet and playful, while Kelly's is much more edgy and daring. I personally like Lauren's look better. What do you think?

Next, we have Twilight actress Ashley Greene and reality star Khloe Kardashian in an Antonio Berardi white dress. Ashley kept the tight fitting dress long and sophisticated, while Khloe shortened it for the Kid's Choice Awards. I think that both of the styles fit the girl's personality, and both of the complete looks look great! But in comparison. I love this dress on Khloe more because her curves add a little to the dress.

Last, we have Emmy Rossum and Hilary Swank both wearing a black Gerard Deral peacoat. I love this military-inspired coat, but as an overall look, I have to give it to Hilary. I like that the coat covers her entire outfit underneath and that the complete look is black.

Who do you think wore it best? Do you agree with my choices?

Friday Favorites: 04/05/2013

Happy Friday everyone! The weather is rainy and dreary here in Florida, so I'm glad I don't have too much on my schedule for today. Here's some of my favorite things from the week!

- Victoria Justice in Prabal Gurung for Target long sleeve tee for an Extra interview.
- Khloe Kardashian in electric blue leather pants at the McDonald's Premium McWrap Launch Party.
- Real Housewife of Beverly Hills' Brandi Glanville wore this low-cut lace dress at the Bravo Upfronts Party last night. I would have really loved this if it was just a bit more conservative on the top.

Beyonce posted this photo on her instagram and it's rumored to be a sketch of one of her costumes for her upcoming tour. I think it's amazing, and let's be honest, anything that Beyonce wears has to be fierce.

Zac Posen designed this stunning gold dress for none other than...Magnum Gold ice cream? That's right, this $1.5 million sequin gown was made for the launch of Magnum's new ice cream. "Creating my first-ever 24 carat gold dress was truly a priceless experience," said Posen.

This past Sunday was Easter and I spent most of my day making these fun and festive desserts! I got all three of the ideas from Pinterest of course. The first is a Peeps bouquet. It wasn't too hard to make, you just need a few Styrofoam balls, a flower pot, toothpicks, and of course, Peeps! I'm not even a Peeps fan myself, but I made it for my family. Next are decadent cupcakes in the form of chicks and bunnies!

And finally, today is the official launch of Derek Lam's collection for Kohl's! Click here to check out my previous post about his new collection!

Add a Splash of Neon This Spring!

Neon was a huge trend last year and it continues to flourish this spring! If you're a bit nervous to incorporate these bright, neon hues, no fear, adding just a pop of neon is here (okay, that was really cheesy). The easiest way to add a splash of neon to your wardrobe is to start with accessories. Jewelry, handbags and shoes are all great items to have that can add an unexpected bright pop to any outfit.

Don't shy away from trying out this trend for yourself. I promise, it's not as scary as it seems! You can start with accessories and then maybe even work your way up to a fun, spring neon dress! Check out some of my favorites that I found below!

I have these wedges pictured above from Charlotte Russe in both the neon yellow and neon pink. They're perfect for Spring and really add a pop of color to any outfit!

Do you incorporate neon into your spring wardrobe? What are your favorite neon accessories?

Spring is finally here and which means warmer weather, Easter, and fun colors like pastels and brights! Lately, celebrities have been loving bright yellow dresses. Yellow dresses really make you look girly yet simple. The color also looks great on almost every skintone! Vanessa Hudgens, Emmy Rossum, and Lauren Conrad are loving this trend, are you?

New Collection: Derek Lam for Kohl's

I'm in love with Kohl's already, but now that they're introducing yet another designer collaboration, I love them even more. Derek Lam's newest collection is ready to hit Kohl's stores on April 5. This collection will be very affordable, with prices ranging from $38-$88. The design palette contains mostly neutrals, blues and greens with both prints and solids and was inspired by Brazil.

Celebrities have already gotten their hands on Lam's new collection. Blake Lively wore Lam's striped tunic, while Megan Hilty sported a flowy maxi, and Emmy Rossum rocked his boatneck dress.

Kohl's has already done designer collaborations with Jennifer Lopez, Rock & Republic, and my favorite, Lauren Conrad. I love Kohl's because they ALWAYS have markdowns and they send out discounts almost weekly for around 20% off of your entire purchase. If you haven't checked out Kohl's yet, this is the perfect time to see what they're all about. They also sell home goods, jewelry, makeup, fragrances and much more!

Here are some of my favorite designs for the collection. I love the bright blue and green solids! Also, watch the video below to get a behind the scenes look at the collection and learn about what got Derek Lam inspired for this collection. Check out Derek Lam's full collection and tell me which pieces you'll be getting!

Are you a Derek Lam fan? Have you even shopped at Kohl's before?
