Currently Trending: Chevron Print

I've seen it everywhere, from cute dresses, to painted walls, to pillows, accessories, iPhone cases, and everything in between. The pattern that everyone is loving right now? Chevron. This zig-zag design started becoming extremely popular last year, and it's presence has only escalated since then. Chevron is a pattern that can immediately make any outfit fun, and it looks great on nearly everyone. It's a nice, slight change from the predictable stripes, and totally on trend right now. In fact, I deemed it one of the most popular fashion trends of 2012. Check out the article here

One of my favorite chevron pieces is a black and gold chevron dress that I wear for football tailgates. I also have a chevron cover for my iPad, and my business cards have a chevron border!

Do you own a lot of chevron? Are you loving this trend?

Fashion from the 2013 Inauguration and Inaugural Ball

On January 21st, 2013, President Barack Obama was sworn in as the 57th president of the United States of America. I tuned in to watch the highlights of both the inauguration, and of course, the inaugural ball that was held tonight. My main focus was on the ladies' fashion, including first lady, Michelle Obama, and herr two daughters, Natasha and Malia.

The inauguration took place this morning outside the White House in Washington D.C., so obviously the weather was a bit chilly. Michelle kept herself warm in a custom silk, navy, checkered coat by Thom Browne. The belt and shoes she wore were by J. Crew and the small pop of color came from her magenta gloves. Malia, the oldest of the two daughters, wore a violet J. Crew coat, while Natasha wore an indigo Kate Spade coat. The color choices of the two coats were extremely complementary of each other and were a great choice for the occasion.

I also couldn't help but notice Beyonce's amazing ensemble. She looked (and sounded) amazing when she sang the National Anthem in a Pucci dress, Christian Dior coat, and Lorraine Schwartz emeralds after the president was sworn in. I absolutely loved the detailing throughout the dress. The pop of green from her emerald jewelry was the perfect pop of color. She looked both elegant and fashionable on the arm of her hubby, Jay-Z.

And of course, I was extremely excited to see what the first lady would be wearing at the 2013 Commander-In-Chief's Inaugural Ball. There had been rumors flying around that she was choosing from a flurry of high-end designers including Tory Burch, Michael Kors, Tracy Reese, Marchesa, and many more, but she ended up choosing Jason Wu...the same designer that she used for the last inaugural ball in 2008.

The scarlet, velvet and chiffon halter-style dress was stunning, although I would have liked it so much more if it were strapless. The dress was gorgeous, but I think the halter top style made it look much cheaper and  not as formal.

Did you love the inauguration fashion? Did you like Michelle's dress this year or in 2008 better?

Louis Vuitton Checkered Print: Love it or Leave it?

During Fashion Week this past Fall, Louis Vuitton showcased its Spring 2013 collection. The unforgettable cohesive style found throughout the collection: checks. Just like a checkerboard, the collection featured different pieces of checkered clothing in colors including black, white, bright yellow, gray, beige, brown, and light green.

Photos from the Louis Vuitton Runway from October 3, 2012

And just this past week, we saw starlets trying out the new trend. But is this a trend that should stick to the runway, or can celebrities and every day people alike pull off this bold pattern?

1. Jessica Alba - InStyle and Warner Bros. Golden Globe After-Party
2. Kirsten Dunst - 2013 Art of Elysium Heaven Gala
3. Kerry Washington - Django Unchained premiere in Berlin
4. Kristen Stewart - The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part II photo call

Love it or leave it? Do you love the checks? Who do you think wore it best?

Friday Favorites

It's time to introduce a new segment of my blog which I'll be updating sparingly on Fridays: Friday Favorites. Basically, I'll just be pulling my favorite things from the week, whether it be street fashion, red carpet fashion, articles, quotes, etc. Pretty self-explanatory.

Earlier this week, I recapped some of my favorite red carpet looks from the People's Choice Awards and the Golden Globes. Since I only chose three for each, I wanted to also mention how amazing Jessica Alba looked in her coral  mermaid-style Oscar de la Renta gown. She kept her makeup and hair sophisticated with soft, side-swept curls gathered on one side, and a pop of orange on her lips.

Recently, I've been a sucker for colored jeans. Right now, I have red and green, but I always want to add more to my collection! Lauren Conrad looked great this week in a simple white button-up paired with forest green jeans, and tan booties.

This week, I tuned in for the Miss America Pageant of Saturday night and loved Miss Wyoming's evening gown. The gown was not too boring, nor too revealing, and it looked amazing on her! Some of the other gowns were questionable, and in my opinion, a total disaster. If you didn't catch the end of the pageant, Miss New York walked away with the title.

Favorite Quote of the Week: "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."

What were your favorite looks from this week? What did you think about the Miss America Pageant?

Favorites from People's Choice Awards and The Golden Globes 2013

Awards season is officially in full swing! This past week, two awards shows took place to kick off the red carpet season: People's Choice Awards and The Golden Globes. The best part about awards shows isn't the show itself, but the hour before on the red carpet. Instead of highlighting both the worst and the best dressed, I picked a few of my favorites from each of the red carpets.

People's Choice Awards
Lea Michele in a bright pink, sequined Elie Saab mini.
Taylor Swift in a white hot Ralph Lauren dress with a plunging neckline.
Chloe Grace Moretz in a neon yellow floral Simone Roche dress.

Golden Globe Awards
Hayden Panettiere in a strapless, mermaid style gown by Roberto Cavalli.
Kate Hudson in a black Alexander McQueen gown with gold embellishments.
Isla Fisher in a detailed Reem Acra gown with a sheer top.

Check out the best and the worst dressed from last year's People's Choice Awards and Golden Globes!

Which gowns were your favorite? Which awards shows are you looking forward to?

Most Popular Fashion Trends of 2012: Love it or Leave it?

The new year is finally here and as we say goodbye to 2012, should be also be saying goodbye to some of 2012's most popular trends? Their sales sky-rocketed this past year and we saw them from runways to the streets of our neighborhoods. But are these trends just fads? Keep reading and let me know if you love it, or want to leave these six fashion trends.

Peplum Dress. At first, this trend seemed quite odd. Why would women want to make their hips look even wider than they already are? But if you find a peplum outfit that hits you in all the right places, this trend can do wonders. This trend is still on the uphill incline and I see it sticking around for the new year. Love it!

Sheer Tops & Bandeaus Bras. When we first started to see this trend emerge, it seemed a bit daring. Showing so much skin and showing your undergarments used to be a no-no, but my, how the tables have turned in 2012. Even though this was such a popular trend this past year, I forsee sheer tops becoming a slowly dying trend. Leave it!

Spikes and Studs. From shoes, to collars, to jewelry, it seemed like you could find anything and everything with studs or spikes on it. Fashionistas everywhere channeled their inner punk rock persona and took on this rebellious trend. It was a huge trend in 2012, but I think it will slowly decrease in popularity. Even though I love this trend in small increments, I don't think it will continue to flourish in the new year. Leave it!

Chevron Print. By far, the most popular print of 2012 was chevron. This zig-zag pattern could be seen in any color on a ton of different canvases from clothes, to wall paintings, to pillows. Although this trend sky-rocketed when it first appeared, I don't see chevron fading out anytime soon. Love it!

Blazers. Suddenly, the easiest way to make any outfit chic was the throw on some heels and blazer. Blazers definitely made their mark on 2012 by becoming available in every different color and pattern and being available at affordable prices. Although they just hit their peak, blazers are here to stay in 2013. Love it!

Crazy Colored Hair. From ombre hair to dyed tips, to pink highlights, we saw it all in 2012 when it came to hair trends. Everyone fell in love with the ombre trend and even I succumbed to the dyed tips trend for a week or two. I think most of us are done with the rainbow colored hair, but ombre is a trend that will be around for a while. Leave it!

So what do you think about these trends? Which ones were your favorite trends of 2012? Which trends should we leave in 2012 and which ones should we carry over to 2013?
